I have over 30 years experience teaching private flute lessons to students of all levels. An individual course plan for each student is designed based on the student’s experience, ability, and interests.  Lessons cover:

  • Tonal work
  • Technical study
  • Etudes
  • Solo Repertoire
  • Orchestral Excerpts
  • Duets

Musical elements that are covered are:

  • Tonal coloration
  • Vibrato
  • Articulation
  • Fluency in Technique
  • Intonation
  • Rhythm
  • Phrasing
  • Music Theory
  • Sight Reading

Preparation for all-state, regional auditions, college applications, and solo student recitals is part of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to participate in youth organizations and summer music programs.

Whether or not the student is a recreational or competitive player, I place an emphasis on the joy of flute playing and how practice time can be maximized in the lives of young people who study the flute.

Lessons are held in my Almaden Valley studio.  Please contact me at kvandyke@stanford.edu.
